SUMMARY:Summit on Homelessness in Newaygo County
DESCRIPTION:"Who is homeless in our community? Why don't they just get a job? Why is there no homeless shelter in Newaygo County? How can I help a family in crisis? What more could we be doing?" These questions come up often in our local communities. Maybe homelessness has affected someone you know\, or you are interested in how these critical needs are being met. If you would like to learn about helping local families and individuals in times of crisis\, please join us for a special community Summit on Homelessness and Transitional Housing in Newaygo County. The event provides 5 State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) for Educators\, 5 NASW CEUs for Social Workers. Homelessness is a serious\, often hidden\, problem for hundreds of Newaygo County residents. At this event\, you will learn about the difficult challenges of rural homelessness\, and the helpful resources we have in our communities. Local agencies will discuss the programs that help prevent homelessness and those that provide housing assistance to families in crisis. Our guest speaker\, Kelly Rose\, Director of the Rental Assistance and Homeless Solutions division at Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA)\, will share what state and federal leaders are doing about housing policies. We will also explore some new\, community-based solutions that could help our county better address the problem. Educators\, community and church leaders\, case managers\, service providers\, elected officials\, concerned citizens will all benefit from the information shared at this conference.
