River Country Chamber to host Event Volunteer informational meetings

January 16, 2019 - The River Country Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a series of Informational Meetings in the coming weeks to answer questions and provide basic information about the 2019 events it will be hosting throughout the county.
“We are at a critical crossroads with many of our events” explained Executive Director Colleen Lynema. “Our number of volunteers has been slowly decreasing, and the overall effect is that we are burning out those people willing to help.”
Lynema added that under current Chamber Policy, events are not supposed to be scheduled until they have at least an event chairperson listed.  She emphasized that no events already scheduled for 2019 will be cancelled, although they will not be put on the calendar for 2020 without an event chair.

“We are hopeful that by holding this series of meetings we will be able to encourage more people to step up and share their talents,” Lynema said, “because we ALL have something to offer!”

Benefits of Volunteering to Chamber Members and Businesses:

“Chamber Membership provides a lot of benefits, but it also comes with some responsibilities.  Volunteering at our various events is a win-win for everyone,” she said.

There are several ways to maximize your Chamber membership by volunteering on a committee.  Some of those benefits include:
    • Business promotion through sponsorship, including building identity, generating leads or spotlighting specific projects
    • Demonstrating your commitment to the Greater Community
    • An opportunity to showcase your professionalism
    • Promote business growth through forward thinking and innovation
    • Expand community and business connections and encourage business growth and diversity
    • Help employees’ network, develop more personal relationships, and display pride in their community through volunteer work
    • HAVE FUN!
Lynema recommends that Chamber Members have at least one representative attend the Overview Meeting on January 29.  That meeting is intended to be a “Big-Picture” Q & A session where people can learn how events are funded, the benefits of sponsorship and the various levels of support needed at specific events.
“Even though we focus on businesses, I want to be clear that you do NOT need to be a Chamber member to volunteer for any of our events,” said Lynema.

    Benefits of Volunteering to individuals:

There are many benefits to individuals who volunteer for community projects.  Among them are
    • The Opportunity to connect with your community
    • Expand your horizons and develop new skills
    • Explore new areas of interest
    • Strengthen your resume
    • HAVE FUN!
Following the Overview meeting on January 29, each community served by the River Country Chamber will host its own meeting to encourage volunteers to step up and help at each of their individual events, which are listed below.  Registration is not required but encouraged so that we can ensure enough materials and space for everyone.  CLICK HERE to register.
